Joining the Pennard Vets team is much more than just a career choice – it’s a move to become one of our employee owners. Everyone from our vets to our admin team is #ProudlyPennards, and we all work hard to help new starters to feel like part of the family. Here we’re asking our newest starters to share their experience of becoming an employee owner at Pennard Vets. This week we hear from Elle Payne, who as our social media coordinator has the lovely job of putting these blogs together!
Elle explains, “joining Pennard Vets at the beginning of the year has been an incredibly positive experience, and I am eager to share my reflections of my journey so far.
I heard about the position funnily enough through social media, a friend of mine sent me the advertisement post as they knew that doing a non-clinical role was something I was very interested in and that I have been content creating for years on my well-known page ‘The Positive Vet Nurse’, it was the perfect opportunity for me.
I have been qualified as a registered veterinary nurse for 6 years, working in referral hospitals and first opinion practices, I obtained my certificate in emergency & critical care nursing and I have been a locum for a few years. I was ready to diversify my career.
I researched the company during my application process to learn more about them, when I read “we will encourage your interests” and “unlimited CPD budget”, I was sold, as someone who’s highest value is self-development, I felt alignment. When I got offered the position, I was over the moon and very excited because it meant that I get to do the work that I enjoy and love doing.
The Culture
From day one, the warmth and friendliness of the team have made me feel like I belong. The welcoming atmosphere has set the tone for a fantastic start to the year, creating a sense of excitement that makes every workday something to look forward to.
Freedom
As a content creator, the freedom to express my creativity is paramount. The whole team has provided me with the autonomy to explore new ideas and approaches, allowing my creative expression to flourish. This freedom not only boosts my work satisfaction and confidence, but also creates a dynamic environment where innovation is celebrated.
Clarity
One of the standout aspects of my experience is the ability to voice honest opinions without fear of judgment or criticism. This level of openness has been a refreshing departure from my previous work experiences, where expressing oneself candidly could be challenging. Here, the culture of transparency has made a significant difference in my professional life.
Team Involvement
Feeling like a valued member of the team has been a highlight of my time here already. Regular opportunities to contribute ideas and receive constructive feedback have made me an integral part of the team. The prospect of being involved in planning events later in the year adds an extra layer of excitement, making me feel genuinely connected to something special.
Flexibility
Being a neurodivergent individual, having flexibility in my working hours is a game-changer. Unlike previous roles, where rigid schedules hindered my productivity, as a team member here, the focus is on the quality of my content rather than adhering to a strict timeframe. This flexibility not only enhances my work-life balance but also allows me to pursue personal interests, such as gym training and runs, contributing to my overall well-being and creativity.
Variety of Roles
The diversity of responsibilities within my role as a social media coordinator is both invigorating and intellectually stimulating. Whether working on recruitment advertising, crafting blog posts, or engaging in content creation, each day brings a new challenge and an opportunity to expand my skill set. Embracing this variety keeps my work dynamic and ensures continuous learning which is a big value to the company and the team.
If you’re contemplating a role at Pennard Vets, I wholeheartedly recommend it. The sense of belonging to a supportive team is amazing, and the value placed on individual contributions makes it a place where you’ll feel both inspired and valued. I eagerly anticipate the opportunities that lie ahead in my career here and I look forward to the exciting developments yet to come.”
