Joining the Pennard Vets team is much more than just a career choice – it’s a move to become one of our employee owners. Everyone from our vets to our admin team is #ProudlyPennards, and we appreciate what all of team members do. This week we hear from Nat Croft, who is a registered veterinary nurse and practice principle that has been working with us for nearly two decades! We want to know what her secret is!
Can you tell us about how your journey at Pennard Vets began?
“I started my Pennard journey in July 2005 as a student veterinary nurse when we were then known as Eton Veterinary Clinic. I worked alongside Caroline Collins, Matt Flann, Claire Ross, Ellie Cross, Kat Butler and Anne Corson during my training at Etons before qualifying as a RVN in September 2008. In 2010 I went on Mat Leave with my son Toby and again in 2013 for my daughter Chloe. A fun fact about me is that prior to starting nursing, I was a debt collector for HMRC!”
How has your role at Pennard evolved over the years?
“There have been many changes throughout the years and my role has also developed and changed. Starting as a student nurse, moving onto qualify, becoming deputy head nurse then onto my current role as Practice Principal. I spend my time between clinical and non-clinical work.”
What is one of your best memories or most challenging cases at Pennard Vets?
“One of my best memories and most challenging cases was during my training when I was lucky enough to be involved with heart surgery. Matt and Caroline were the operating vets whilst Kat Butler and I were monitoring the anaesthetic. Andy Green also made an appearance! I’m pleased to say the dog survived surgery and lived on for many years.”
What has been the secret to staying in one practice for nearly two decades?!
“The support of my colleagues have kept me at Pennards for so long, it feels like a big family here.”
Do you have any pets?
“I currently have 2 dogs called Dozer the Rottie and Mr Bumble the Border Terrier, along with 3 snakes called Storm, Slyder and Jeffrey, and I have Timmy the Tortoise.”
What do you do in your spare time?
“In my free time I like to spend time with family and friends, go running and walk the dogs. I also recently completed the Brighton Marathon!”
